I finished Breaking Dawn tonight.

Thank goodness that's over.

So, okay, I didn't really mind the first three books. They aren't the best books in the world, but I found them pretty fun. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I'd be afraid of them liking the books in a non-ironic way. But they made me laugh. I like the melodrama, and occasionally (usually when the werewolves are around) they're genuinely funny. Unfortunately, Bella's a horrible person, Edward's an abusive boyfriend, and everyone else in the books, including the two-dimensional villains, are more likable then them. But despite that, even Edward and Bella manage to be bearable characters.

And then along comes Renesmee. I hate children that are supposed to be oh-so-adorable and everyone loves them and is willing to give up everything to protect them. GAG. I barely got through the third part of Breaking Dawn because of that.

I didn't mind Twilight much, because really it wasn't anything more than a teenage girl and a creepy old man teenage boy falling in love obsessively, which is not really a new story, despite the sparkles. I really liked Bella at the beginning. She reminded me of... me. Yeah, I know, I know. But I moved around a lot as a kid. I was shy. Yes, it is possible to be considered average in a big city and cute in smaller one. Yes, it is possible to be shy enough that you don't want people pestering you on your first day. And yes, Bella's clumsiness? It is, oddly enough, believable for someone to be so clumsy. And then Bella became a satellite to Edward and I dropped most of my sympathy for her.

I loved New Moon, because I found all the melodramatic almost-suicides to be hilarious. And there was hardly any Edward in it. With the added bonus of Jacob being in most of it. I love Jacob in this book. Despite everything he becomes later, I still like him. And I'll be honest! The first time I genuinely liked Edward was at the end of this book when he attempts suicide and is saved by Bella. Aw, he thinks he's dead he's went to heaven because Bella is there (despite them both having apparently suicided? Oh well). That's so cheesy and yet so cute.

And I didn't mind Eclipse, because there was a lot of Cullen family stuff in it. And a lot of Jacob as well, even if he spent most of the book being sullen. And apparently I am a big sap for proposal scenes too, because I liked Edward there too! Aw, he's so cute when he acts old-fashioned. Saving her virtue, pffffft.

The first third of Breaking Dawn wasn't bad. It was suitably hilarious (pillow biting, HAHAHAHAHAHA). And the second third was narrated by Jacob and was like something out of a horror movie, so that was pretty nice. It was gross. I was impressed. I wasn't expected Meyer to have that ability. I thought she could only write sparkles and angst. And then Smee arrived and broke everything. Okay, so Bella was a little annoying too. Oh so perfect at everything she does! GAG. But nothing like my hatred for perfect little Smee. Actually, I hate how everyone became suddenly baby-obsessed in this book. Every single female is obsessed with babies. Well, except maybe Alice. I didn't notice any obsession from Alice. The rest all are a little scary. Babies everywhere!

The whole thing just kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. And things were going so well, too!

By the end of the book, I still was occasionally hearing this (at 1:12) when anyone yelled Bella's name. Actually, watching that is more fun than I had reading Breaking Dawn. That Bella is certainly more likable than the Twilight one!

...Bella!
