Re: Firefly

Episodes 2-5 remain pretty awesome! I'm starting to feel a little depressed, though, since that means I'm already more than a third through the series. I-I really can't see why they would have canceled this show? It's really enjoyable, much better than anything I've watched on TV lately.

If any of you guys want to watch it (and you're in the US, I guess), the whole series is up on Hulu.

On the look on the brightside sort of thing, they have massive replay value.

When you get around to commentary watching, watch War Stories with commentary it's hilarious.

That's true! I keep feeling like I should go back and re-watch the earlier episodes because I missed something. Doesn't hurt that the Hulu versions are a little lo-res too. I'll definitely watch the show with commentary when I can, thanks for the recommendation!

The series failed because Fox made some super-stupid decisions when originally airing it in 2002. The first stupid decision being to show the episodes out of order. Actually, three of the episodes were never aired (Trash, The Message, and Heart of Gold) and the pilot was the last thing they aired. Also, they scheduled it for Friday nights during the air time for.... Lost or something, I forget.

If you want to check out the extras, you're welcome to borrow my DVDs (Miakun is right -- the episode commentaries are great). Also I have the comic that takes place after the series and before the movie. Also, WHY AREN'T YOU GOING TO WATCH SERENITY??

[identity profile] brazen-heart.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Serenity seems depressing.

I'll happily borrow your DVDs, though! I love listening to commentary, it's a little annoying to everyone I watch movies with because when I watch without commentary I'll always bring up what was said in commentary.

Serenity... definitely has its dark moments. I can't imagine regretting watching it though.

Haha, I do that too. I'm sure it's pretty annoying, but sometimes it actually answers a question someone asks. ALSO, there's this hilarious thing in the pilot episode that you probably didn't notice, but it will forever be hilarious after having it pointed out. So. You can swing by my apartment if you want, or I can tell you my work schedule and you can drop by the mall to pick up my DVDs. Whatever's easy. :)

Well, I guess whether I watch Serenity or not will depend on how I feel at the end of Firefly. And sometimes I'll randomly crack and decide to watch something I really didn't want to (like the newest Indiana Jones). But right now, no.

I still need to visit your birds. Are you free, say, next Friday or Saturday, maybe?

[identity profile] dragonkin.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You picked the worst week ever to be available for a visit! My apartment is a disaster (it never recovered from the Pest Treatment Incident of Total Disarray) and I'm in crunch time to finish my illustration contract. So... no. :'(
I'm definitely free starting in April, possibly a few days sooner. If you want the DVDs before then (which I wouldn't blame you for), I'll be working this Friday and Saturday from 4-9 pm and 5-9 pm, respectively. Just let me know to expect you and I'll bring shiny entertainment!
How's the semester anyway? Or are you not talking about it...??

[identity profile] brazen-heart.livejournal.com 2009-03-20 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it's fine! I got a bunch of homework to grade this weekend, anyway, so it's not such a loss. I only watch stuff when it's convenient, anyway, so who knows when I'll finish Firefly anyway.

Good luck on your illustration contract!

...school has been school. I'm feeling pretty despairing about it, which this semester has translated to me trying to forget the fact that I have school whenever possible, hah. Haaaaaaah.
